Monet Blakey

Position: Alumni Program Manager

Monet Blakey works to connect and engage New Futures’ Alumni through programming and events as they enter the workforce and/or continue their post-secondary journeys after their initial New Futures supported credential/degree. She also advises and supports Second-Time Scholars as they pursue their second degree. She is passionate about addressing educational disparities that persist in marginalized communities. She is a product of DCPS, graduating from Banneker High School and completing her education at Bates College where she majored in African American Studies. Monet has extensive experience empowering youth in non-traditional academic environments. In her five years of experience, she has managed an afterschool college access program, managed a summer healthy eating/lifestyle program, where she organized and executed instructional workshops that informed participants. As a Program Assistant with CollegeTracks, Monet worked to support low income, first generation high school students as they pursued post-secondary options. She helped students prepare their application materials for college applications and scholarships while providing one on one advising. Also, with CollegeTracks, Monet worked to ensure that Spanish speaking and undocumented students were able to access the program’s services. Monet is also a third generation Washingtonian that can be found reading books on sunny days.
