Desiree Despertt

Scholars Program Advisor

Desiree Despertt from as long as she can remember enjoyed mentoring and coaching people. She started out as a sassy and bossy toddler, and turned her skills into a profession of leadership, listening to understand others, and accepting and working with people for who they are. Her passion grew when she earned her Master of Education: School Counseling from Frostburg State University. Many opportunities crossed her path to mentor pre-K-12 aged students through internships and volunteer experiences. This soon evolved into the higher education realm where she began working for University of Maryland Global Campus. Her visionary mindset has helped thousands of students push through their educational pathways.

She now serves as a Scholar Advisor for New Futures DC and intently strives to form empowering relationships, assist youth to activate their superpowers, and effectively utilize her many years of higher education experience to ensure scholars are given the proper nuggets to succeed. She proudly serves as an adjunct professor focusing on topics such as career development and planning, degree planning, and proactive coaching. Her love for teaching and working with students does not stop at the higher education level. In her free time, Desiree is an avid advocate for first time moms. She curates inclusive, healthy spaces for moms to bring their children to connect while she coaches them on their education needs.
