Nicholas Lorenz serves as New Futures’ Communications Manager. Born and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Nick is thrilled to return to the Washington, DC area to serve his hometown community. A veteran of various movement spaces, he has worked on issues ranging from educational equity to climate justice, always with a central focus on young people and their development. As a community college graduate himself, Nick knows the critical role these institutions play in creating a more equitable society by offering an affordable, accessible path to rewarding career opportunities. Upon completing his Associate’s degree, he earned his Bachelor’s degree (Liberal Studies, Global Black Studies) from Florida International University.
Nick began his non-profit career in 2006 as an AmeriCorps member in Chicago before moving to Miami to help launch a new site for a national service organization as a founding staff member. His decade serving in program roles gives him a well-rounded perspective to draw on as he joins the development team at New Futures. Nick approaches his work with a contagious energy and passion, as well as a deep belief in service to a cause greater than self, and he strives to leverage his unearned privilege to amplify the voices and experiences of others.
Outside of work, Nick is an enthusiastic consumer of nature documentaries, an overconfident pickup basketball player, a junk drawer of useless trivia, and a fearless unskilled dancer. His wife and kids are what inspire him to fight for a better world each day.
